“Amrit Bharat Station Scheme” (“अमृत भारत स्टेशन योजना”), is a significant step towards remodeling and rejuvenating of Indian Railway Stations which is taken by the Government of India on Sunday, 6th August. It holds to restructure 1309 railway stations all over India. It is an ambitious project with a durable vision of constant development and renovation of Indian Railway Stations. Hence the country is all set to experience a new phase in the present and future of Indian Railways. In an initial phase, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 Indian Railway Stations.

Key Features of “AMRIT BHARAT STATION SCHEME”: “अमृत भारत स्टेशन योजना”, 2023:
- The scheme involves strategic development of railway stations in different phases so as to ensure complete development.
- It includes development of basic amenities or recreational opportunities such as easy accessibility to stations for the passengers, easy mobility within the station, lounges with modern facilities, upgradation of toilet facilities along with monitoring of regular cleanliness and hygiene, proper disposal of waste, provision of baby care rooms, access to complimentary Wi-Fi facility, booths for promotion of local goods in conformity with the scheme ‘One Station, One Product’, upgraded lifts or escalators and constant monitoring of their proper functioning, , specific facilities for Specially Abled citizens (Divyangans), modern and prompt passenger information systems via timely update of train schedules, suitable areas for conducting meetings or business discussions, arrangement of adequate television displays around the station, establishment of cafes, food courts etc.
- The “AMRIT BHARAT STATION SCHEME”: “अमृत भारत स्टेशन योजना” also additionally includes rebuilding and bridging the gap between two ends of a city. Hence it includes multidimensional integration ecologically sound solutions for persisting problems, installation of ballastless tracks, ‘Roof Plazas’ as per requirement, eventual development of urban hubs at railway stations.

AMRIT BHARAT STATION SCHEME IN ASSAM:
In the initial phase of the scheme, the following are the targeted visions for Assam in particular and North-East India in general:
- Among 508 stations to be reconstructed in the first phase, 32 stations have been selected from the state of Assam.
- The scheme is targeted to construct a world-class railway station in Guwahati.
- For this purpose, Rs. 750 crore has been allocated for development of Guwahati Railway Station and Rs. 200 crore ahs been allocated to Kamakhya Railway Station.
- There is provision of priority towards rail better connectivity and expansion of Railways in North East India.
Role of Citizens in the “AMRIT BHARAT STATION SCHEME” (“अमृत भारत स्टेशन योजना”):
The Indian Railways has also introduced an all-inclusive effort to include and welcome citizen’s suggestions or ideas on re-development of Railway Stations. The Department has introduced an online feedback/suggestions form for providing suggestions. The citizens need to provide the following details to put forward their suggestions:

- Occupation
- Address
- Mobile No.
- Email ID
- Station Option
- Suggestions for Station Architecture
- Suggestions for Creation of City-Centre at the Stations
- Suggestions for improvement of Station Access- Approach Roads, Connecting Both Sides of City, Number of Entry/Exits.
- Suggestions for improvement of waiting halls
- Suggestions for improvement of information exchange
- Suggestions for Incorporating Local Context in the Station Design
- Important Elements of Historical Context for the Station
- Suggestions for Improving Facilities for Divyangjan, Senior Citizens, Women, Children, Pedestrians etc.
- Suggestions for Multi-Modal Connectivity
