Arohan (AROHAN) is a student oriented initiative led by Government of Assam to help meritorious students of Secondary classes enrolled in Government schools. This initiative facilitates students to get assured guidance from experienced elite section of society as their mentors. The word ‘Arohan’ implies scaling up heights and that is what this scheme is intended to provide. This scheme is listed under Samagra Sikhsha Assam, Department of School Education, Government of Assam.

Key features of Arohan:

  1. Arohan is a program that emphasizes inclusivity, support, and societal contribution.
  2. Under the Arohan program, talented students aged 13 to 18, studying in classes VIII to X, will receive support through mentoring and counseling for career progression, exposure, and incentives in the form of cash or kind.
  3. The mentors can include senior government officials, both serving and retired, alumni of schools, students pursuing postgraduate degrees or higher at esteemed universities, entrepreneurs with their own businesses, professionals or corporate individuals originating from Assam and currently serving anywhere in India or abroad.
  4. The Deputy Commissioner / Principal Secretary (in the case of 6th Schedule districts) serves as the Chief Mentor in the respective district.
  5. Regular interaction between mentees and mentors is essential for a successful mentoring experience. Mentees are encouraged to actively engage with their mentors, ask questions, share their thoughts, and seek guidance on various aspects of their career aspirations.
  6. The mentor-mentee relationship established through the Arohan platform aims to provide valuable guidance and support to mentees on their journey to achieving their career goals. Regular engagement, proactive communication, and commitment from both mentees and mentors contribute to a successful mentoring experience.

Mentors under Arohan will include experienced, established professionals and highly designated people from all sections of Government who will groom students (mentees) in academics, non-academics, career counselling etc. The mentors include the following people-

  • Hon’ble Speaker of Vidhan Sabha
  • Teachers/ Professors/ Principals of Schools and Colleges
  • IAS/ACS Officers
  • Public representatives
  • Enterpreneurs

Mentees under Arohan:

The Mentees are toppers of Class 8 to Class 10, aged 13 to 18 years from Government/ Provincialised Schools, Adarsha Vidyalayas, Tea Garden Model Schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas.

Mentee/ Students Registration process: How to get a Mentor?

The Mentee/ Students will have to visit the official Arohan portal and follow the following listed steps:

    Schools will submit the details of students, as mentioned in government guideline for student selection, in online mentee registration form.

STEP 2: Student Login: https://arohan-ssa.assam.gov.in/user_login
After successful registration, each mentee (student) will be assigned a dedicated mentor who will guide and support them in achieving their career goals. Mentors will provide valuable insights, advice, and assistance throughout the mentoring journey. This will be done by Chief Mentor, who is Deputy Commissioner / Principal Secretary (in case of 6th Schedule Districts).

  1. Student Login Process: Once registered, mentees can access their accounts on the Arohan web application using the following steps:
  • Select role as Mentee
  • Username: Registered mobile number
  • Password: Date of birth in DDMMYYYY format (e.g., if the date of birth is January 1,
    2010, the password will be 01012010)

2. Assignment Submission: After logging in, mentees will have access to their dashboard, where they can find assignments or activities assigned by their mentors. They can complete and submit these assignments within the specified deadlines.

3. Feedback and Interaction: Mentors will review and evaluate the assignments submitted by mentees. They will provide feedback, suggestions, and guidance to help mentees improve their skills and knowledge. This interaction is crucial for the mentee’s growth and development.

STEP 3: Arohan Web Application System https://arohan-ssa.assam.gov.in The Arohan web application is designed to facilitate seamless communication between mentees and mentors. Through the platform, mentees can:

  • Access assignments and activities set by mentors.
  • Submit completed assignments and activities.
  • Receive feedback, suggestions, and advice from mentors.
  • Engage in discussions and seek clarification on career-related matters.
  • Monitor their progress and track their journey toward their career goals.

STEP 2: Chief Mentor (Deputy Commissioner / Principal Secretary, the case of 6th Schedule districts) will approve your profile, if found eligible. As a mentor you don’t need to do anything, Chief Mentor will use his good office to verify and approve your profile submitted online. Once approved, you will be assigned a mentee (student) by Chief Mentor based on their area of interest/ career choice and your area of interest for mentoring.

STEP 3:

After registration and approval of your profile as a Mentor from Chief Mentor, you can do the following:

Upon successfully submitting the details through the provided online portal at https://arohanssa.assam.gov.in , you will be officially registered and approved as a Mentor by Chief Mentor. Your role will involve offering valuable career guidance to the carefully selected or
assigned mentees. For logging into the system at https://arohan-ssa.assam.gov.in, kindly select your role as Mentor, and utilize your mobile number as the designated user ID, and the password you supplied during the online registration process. In the event of forgetting your password, please do not hesitate to reach out to the officials at the Inspector of Schools office. They will facilitate the password reset process and guide you in navigating the Arohan Web Application.

Within this Arohan web application, the mentors have the capability to:

  • Develop and organize various mentoring activities tailored for mentees. Login to your and submit activities to mentees and/or view their responses of the assigned activities.
  • In addition to activities, you can also allocate assignments to your mentees.
  • Assess their ongoing progress and deliver constructive feedback to aid their growth.

Exposure trip to be organised under Arohan:

The Government of Assam has planned to organise an exposure trip for the mentees/students registered under Arohan. The details of the trip are as follows:

  • The exposure trip will be organised in December, 2023.
  • A total of 4339 mentees/students from 2023-24 will be a part of the exposure trip.
  • The mentees will be taken on exposure visit to premier institutions in Guwahati like IIT Guwahati, Narangi Military Station, Bio-technology park, Regional Science Centre, Assam State Museum, Assam State Zoo, Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Administrative Staff College, Gauhati University.
  • The students will be accommodated across six locations in Guwahati and will be accompanied by Magistrates, Doctors, para-medical staff, Police and Teachers.
  • The Arohan Scheme this year will begin on 7th September with a 4-day exposure visit to Guwahati for all eligible students.
