Assam Civilian Awards 2023: Apply for Nominations, Last Date Announced

Assam Civilian Awards are a category of recognition to citizens in the interest of public service. In order to recognize the exceptional service/ performance of the highest order in any field of human endeavor, the Government of Assam has been conferring the Assam Civilian Awards on the similar patterns of Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, the highest Civilian Awards of the Government of India. This award is being bestowed since 2021 by Government of Assam to citizens providing rich contributions to the society.

Assam Civilian Awards: Details

The award is categorised in three main categories:

  • Assam Baibhav
  • Assam Saurav
  • Assam Gaurav

Under Assam Baibhav category, the award is conferred to only one individual in a year. Under Assam Saurav category the number of awardees stands at 3 (three) and for Assam Saurav category, the number of awardees stand at 15 (fifteen). However, the number of awardees is subject to changes as per decision of the Award Committee.

Assam Civilian Awards: Monetary Benefits for Awardees

The awardees are provided with the following:

  1. Assam Bhaibhav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 5 lakh.
  2. Assam Saurav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 4 lakh.
  3. Assam Gaurav – A citation/ certificate/ medal and a monetary sum of Rs. 3 lakh.

Other Benefits Provided:

All the above awardees are also offered with the following facilities:

  • Free Medical Treatment in Government hospitals and stay in paying cabins, wherever available.
  • They will be provided free accomodation in Stte Government Circuit Houses, Guest Houses and Assam Bhawans.
  • They will be regular invitees for all the official functions as distinguised guests.
  • The Government of Assam will provide up to Rs. 2 lakh for medical expenses towards their treatment of critical diseases.
  • Over and above the provision for award money and certain facilities to recepients, free travel will also be permitted to awardees in ASTC buses, provided they give a 24 hour prior information of the proposed journey.

Eligibility Criteria:

The following are the main eligibility criteria for Assam Civilian Awards:

A. The persons who have been rendering commendable services in different fields but not given due recognition from the following fields:

  • Public services
  • Industries
  • Weaving
  • Teaching
  • Police Operations

B. The persons who have been rendering distinguished and exceptional services shall be considered for the Assam Civilian award.

C. All persons without any discrimination of race, caste or sex are eligible for the awards.

D. List of fields include the following:

  • Art (includes Music, Painting, Sculpture, Weaving, Photography, Cinema, Theater etc.
  • Social work (includes social service, charitable service, contribution in community projects etc.)
  • Public Affairs (includes Law, Public Life, Politics etc.)
  • Science & Engineering (includes, Nuclear Science, Information Technology, Research & Development in Science & its allied subjects etc.)
  • Trade & Industry (includes Banking, Economic Activities, Management, Promotion of Tourism, and Business etc.)
  • Medicine (includes medical research, distinction/specialization in Ayllrveda, Homeopathy, Allopathy, Naturopathy etc.)
  • Literature & Education (includes Journalism, Teaching, Book composing, Literature, Poetry, Promotion of education, Promotion of literacy, Education Reforms etc.)
  • Civil Service (includes distinction/excellence in administration etc.)
  • Sports (includes popular Sports, Athletics, Adventure, Mountaineering, promotion of sports, Yoga etc.)
  • Others (fields not covered above and may include propagation of Indian Culture, protection of Human Rights, Wild Life protection/conservation etc.)
  • Environmentalists
  • Police Operations
  • The Assam Civilian Awards may normally not be conferred posthumously. However ,in highly deserving cases, the Government may consider giving an award posthumously.

Online Application for Nominations: How to apply?

The nominations will be received through a dedicated online portal. The date of calling nominations . and cutoff dates for receipt of nominations is fixed by the Award Committee. Only nominations
received during that period will be considered. The last date for receiving online nominations is 31st October, 2023.
