Khadi Mahotsav 2023: Participate in various competitions in the national level

Khadi Mahotsav is being celebrated in India to promote khadi textiles and industry. It is a month long campaign to celebrate and honour the fabric related to our rich heritage of freedom struggle. The Government of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi had taken up this initiative to spread awareness among the citizens about the use and benefits of khadi.

Purpose of Khadi Mahotsav:

  • To honour the fabric of our freedom struggle and uplift the philosophy laid by Mahatma Gandhi.
  • To generate awareness amongst unemployed rural population and make them self-reliant by the use of khadi.
  • To promote use of khadi in textiles, decor, home accessories, handbags etc and make it a fashion statement among youths of the country.
  • To fulfil greater motives by the use of khadi such as ecological benefits, economic upliftment, women empowerment, rural unemployment etc.
  • To encourage the people to buy khadi products and support local entrepreneurs.
  • To take pride in buying and usage of khadi products.

Activities/Competitions under Khadi Mahotsav 2023:

  • E-Pledge: Take the e-pledge for Khadi Mahotsav and get an instant certificate from Government of India. Click HERE to take the e-pledge.
  • Khadi Jingle contest: Jingles on subject/ theme related to the Atmanirbhar Bharat / Vocal for Local /Khadi for Nation Khadi for Fashion are invited to participate in this competition. The participants, through their jingle, should aim to spread awareness about Khadi Mahotsav and to promote the idea of a ‘vocal for local’ campaign and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The participants are encouraged to explore their creative instincts and produce an audio clip and script of a jingle that promotes Khadi and other local products like handloom and handicraft products, products under the ODOP program, or local products of self-help groups. It should attract the younger population towards the use of local products for creating a self-reliant India. It should motivate them on a higher level to contribute towards Atmanirbhar Bharat by using Khadi and other local products. The Top three winners at National level, will be awarded KVIC e-coupon* worth:
    1st Prize- e-coupon* worth 25,000/-
    2nd Prize- e-coupon* worth 20,000/-
    3rd Prize- e-coupon* worth 15,000/-
  • One jingle in each language category will be awarded a KVIC e-coupon* worth Rs. 15,000/- each.
  • The rewards will be given in the form of a KVIC e-coupon which will be redeemable on the KVIC e-commerce platform www.khadiindia.gov.in subject to the condition that the khadi mahotsav winner has to purchase Khadi and V.I. products worth a minimum of Rs.100/- from www.khadiindia.gov.in and further the winner has to declare a list of 5 to 10 items, which he/she would replace with local products, in the KVIC e-commerce-platform viz. www.khadiindia.gov.in.

  • Selfie wearing Khadi products: Another contest in line with Khadi Mahotsav is to upload a selfie wearing khadi or local product. Top 5 Winners will get a KVIC e-Coupon worth Rs.2000/- each. Click HERE to participate.
  • Khadi Mahotsav Quiz contest: A quiz contest related to khadi industry has been made open to all Indian citizens to participate and grab a chance to get rewarded in Rs. 5000 KVIC coupons each.
  • Short Film Making Competition:
  • Short Films produced in India on a subject/ theme related to the Khadi for Nation Khadi for Fashion/Vocal for Local/ Atmanirbhar Bharat are to be invited to participate in this competition. The participants, through their short film, should aim to spread awareness about Khadi Mahotsav and to promote the idea of the ‘vocal for local’ campaign and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The participants are encouraged to explore their creative instincts and produce a short film that promotes Khadi and local products. It should attract the younger population towards the use of local produce for creating a self-reliant India.   • Slogan Writing Contest: It is to develop prompt awareness amongst citizens and motivate them to buy khadi products.  The slogan should be original. It should be simple in language and can be in both English and Hindi. The slogan should be grammatically correct and in short sentences with a word limit of 8 words. The slogan should bring the thrust areas of Khadi and local products. Only one slogan may be prepared per candidate.
  • Street Play Contest: KVIC and the National School of Drama, New Delhi is organising a Street Play Contest for Indian students upto 12th Grade in collaboration with MyGov on the theme – Khadi for Nation Khadi for Fashion/Vocal for Local/ Atmanirbhar Bharat. All the participants, through their streetplay, should aim to spread awareness about Khadi Mahotsav and to promote the idea of ‘vocal for local’ campaign and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ envisaged by the Hon’ble Prime Minister. The street play video should be in any of the following Indian languages:
    1. English; 2. Hindi; 3. Assamese; 4. Bengali; 5. Gujarati; 6. Kannada; 7. Malayalam; 8. Marathi; 9. Odia; 10. Punjabi; 11. Tamil; and 12. Telugu. The street play video, as per the eligibility conditions, needs to be uploaded on to YouTube as UNLISTED (it should not be available on search engines or available in the public domain). Only the YouTube link needs to be submitted on www.mygov.in as the entry. The video must be shot horizontally in FHD (Full HD 1080p 16:9 1920X1080) resolution only. The picture and sound should be clearly understood, with no shaking/ blurry footage and minimal noise/static. Each entry shall be accompanied by acceptable formats for street play videos – Youtube – UNLISTED link (containing MP4/MOV/H264, Full HD, Resolution 1920 x 1080 pixels, 24/25 fps)
  • Essay Writing Competition: Khadi Mahotsav Essay Writing Competition is one such contest being organized by KVIC in collaboration with MyGov for UG/PG Students inviting them to write an essay on any one of the below-mentioned topics:
    1. Khadi is not a cloth but an idea.
    2. Khadi- Symbol of self-respect and self-reliance.
    3. Khadi of my dreams.
    4. Khadi –A revolutionary fabric.
    5. Khadi-Journey from freedom to fashion.
    6. Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion, Khadi for Transformation.
    7. Khadi is not only a garment but also an arm and weapon.
    8. Role of MSMEs in Rural Development.
    9. Handlooms and Sustainable Fashion: A Green Approach to Clothing.

Motto of Khadi Mahotsav 2023:

The motto of Khadi Mahotsav 2023 is ‘Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion’. It implies inculcating khadi in fashion and other everyday life.
