Khelo India University Games is a mega sports event set to focus on budding sports talents across universities of India. This initiative was introduced in the year 2020 in JNL Indoor Stadium, Cuttack, Odisha by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is organised by the Sports Authority of India and Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports along with Association of Indian Universities and National Sports Federation. It is the biggest university level sports event in the nation.

Khelo India University Games: First Edition
The first edition of Khelo India University Games was held from 22nd February, 2020 to 1st March 2020 JNL Indoor stadium, in Odisha. It also took place in some other significant venues such as Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), in Bhubaneshwar, SAI-Odisha Badminton Academy and SAI- International Residential School in Cuttack. The first edition of the games included 211 events in 17 sports with a total participation of 176 universities. It was at this event that for the first time Fencing and Rugby were included under Khelo India campaign. Punjab University topped the medal tally with a total of 46 medals including 17 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze medals.
Khelo India University Games: Second Edition
The second edition of Khelo India University Games was held in the year 2022. Previously, it was supposed to be held in the year 2021, but due to the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19, the event had to be postponed. It was hosted by Bangalore. This edition witnessed the participation of over 200 universities in 20 events. It was under this edition of the games that for the first time a mobile based application was designed to get updated information about the event.
Khelo India University Games: Third Edition
The third edition of Khelo India University Games was hosted by four cities across Uttar Pradesh such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Greater Noida and Gorakhpur. It was for the first time that in this edition Rowing was included as a debut sport. 205 universities participated in 27 total events under this edition. However, Punjab University was able to retain its topmost position at the medal tally.
Khelo India University Games: Fourth Edition
The fourth edition of Khelo India University Games will be held from 1st to 13th February, 2024. The mega sporting spectacle will be hosted by Guwahati, Assam. As announced by the Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, the event will include more than 200 participanting universities, consisting of 4000 atheletes to be participated in 18 sports disciplines involving over 1200 technical officials and voulnteers.
