Assam Veterinary and Livestock Mission is a project initiative of Government of Assam to boost the ongoing National Livestock Mission (NLM). The NLM is a scheme introduced by Government of India, running successfully since 2014-15. In recent years, 2021-22 the scheme has been revised to accommodate new objectives and policies within it. The revised version of the mission has emphasized upon employment generation, increase in productivity of cattle, sufficient fulfillment of domestic demands, increase in export, promote livestock entrepreneurship etc.

What is Assam Veterinary and Livestock Mission?
The Assam Veterinary and Livestock Mission is a sub-mission under the aegis of Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Government of Assam. Aims and objectives of Assam Veterinary and Livestock Mission:
The mission is directed to fulfill the following aims:
- The primary aim of the mission is to emphasize on health of livestock and extend its expansion to livestock farmers through four parameters of service delivery such as- infrastructure, manpower, logistics and medicines.
- The mission also aims to improve livestock productivity through appropriate measures to further strengthen the agro-economy of the state.
The objectives of the Mission are as follows:
- To provide quality livestock health services through additional technical manpower in field.
- To generate employment opportunities in livestock sector.
- Promoting awareness amongst livestock farmers in scientific rearing and breed upgradation of livestock and poultry.
- Training and educating farmers on hygienic and financially viable production of livestock products.
- Increase in production of meat, egg, goat milk, wool and fodder.
- Capacity building of state functionaries and livestock owners through strengthened extension.
- machinery to provide quality extension service to farmers.
- Promotion of self-employment and entrepreneurship through self-sustainable livelihood in livestock sector.
