Amrit Brikshya Andolan অমৃত বৃক্ষ আন্দোলন 2023 is a revolutionary initiative of Government of Assam to plant one Crore saplings of 53 nos of commercially valuable species across the state in a Jan Bhagidaari model. It is a mega plantation drive to be organised on 17th September, 2023. This plantation drive not only focusses on plantation but also assures that the respective planters would plant, grow, nurture and enjoy the fruits from these plants. The Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this visionary drive on 8th June, 2023 at the Chandubi Amrit Plantation.

Amrit Brikshya Andolan: Key Features

  • 1 crore saplings to be planted under this drive from 9 AM to 11AM on 17 September 2023.
  • Increasing green cover of the state by 2% i.e from 36% to 38% over a period of five years.
  • 1.46 Crore seedlings of 53 commercially valuable species have been mobilized of which 1.17 crore seedlings have been mobilized via competitive bidding.
  • As on 5th Sept 2023, 68 lakhs seedlings have already been delivered to various stocking Points across the state.
  • This initiative will promote Tree Economy in the state and will attract new investment in the wood-based industry sector as over 5000 crore is expected to be added to the state economy over a period of next 5-10 years from the trees planted under the programme.
  • 47,34,465 beneficiaries have registered online through the mobile app.
  • Plantation will include planting of commercial plants by Self Help Group Members, ASHA workers and supervisors, Police, educational institutes, Anganwadi workers, Village Defence Parties, Tea Garden community, other individuals etc.
  • Saplings will be provided free of cost by Government of Assam.
  • Prior registration for receiving and planting of saplings is to be done on the web portal/mobile app.
  • Financial grant of Rupees 100 will be given as Direct Beneficiary Transfer after planting the seedling and uploading the image onto the portal.
  • Rs. 200 to be paid in 3rd Year on survival of the plant.
  • Geo-tagged photos will have to be uploaded to avail the financial grant.

Registration process:

  • STEP 1: Choose your type of registration from the list popping up at the top right corner of your screen.
  • STEP 2: Fill in the registration form by providing your ID proof, photograph, mobile number and click ‘submit’.
  • STEP 3: Once registered you will be provided with a login ID and password which is required for successful uploading of photograph after plantation.

“I pledge to plant seedlings on the occasion of Amrit Brikshya Andolan, 2023 and to protect these seedlings till their maturity. Saplings/Seeds to be planted under this drive:

This plantation movement is aimed to promote tree economy. Therefore it focusses on planting commercial plants only. The type of saplings/seeds are grouped into four broad categories for the purpose. These are:

  • PLYWOOD: Bhomora/Bohera, Borpat, Ghora Neem, Kadam, Khasi pine, Khokon, Lali, Maha Neem, Malabar Neem, Mekai Sam Kathal, Simul.
  • TIMBER: Ajar, Amari, Arjun, Badam, Bhelkor, Bogipoma, Bola, Bonsom, Gamari, Gonsorai, Gurjan, Hollock , Koroi , Mahogany, Mango, Moj , Sal, Silikha, Siris, Sissoo, Teak, Tita sopa, Urium.
  • MEDICINAL: Amlokhi, Arjun, Bhomora/Bohera, Bokphul, Dalchini, Jamun, Kuji Thekera, Leteku, Manipuri Seem, Nooni, Silikha, Tejpat.
  • OTHERS: Jalphai, Khoir, Leteku, Mango, Nooni, Poniol.

Preparations on Amrit Brikshya Andolan:

The Chief Minister of Assam stated on 22nd August that a total of 47 lakh applications/registrations have been successfully done via mobile app for this mega event. He also stated that each person will be able to plant 2 saplings/seedlings in the program. People are also requested to register at the earliest via web portal or mobile app. A review meeting of all stake holders for Amrit Brikshya Andolan was held at DC office Baksa to discuss about registered beneficiaries, targeted distribution and distribution centres of saplings.

Creation of records at Amrit Brikshya Andolan:

The Assam Government is aiming to create several records at the said event:

  • A 22 km long spiral of 3,20,000 saplings is created to make Guinness World Record on 9th September, 2023 at Veterinary Ground, Khanapara, Guwahati.
  • Highest number of pledges taken.
  • Highest number of saplings planted.
  • An online session was held to create another Guinness World Record on “Assam’s Green Future: Environmental Sustainablility and Amrit Brikshya Andolan” via YouTube followed by training on Amrit Brikshya Andolan App on 11th September, 2023, 10:55am to 12:20 pm

Who is eligible for incentive for Amrit Brikshya Andolan?

An individual beneficiary who is not getting salary from any government department is eligible for incentive.

How will I get the saplings?

You will get the seedling from the pre defined category wise collection points.

How to plant the sapling/seedling?

You should dig a clean pit of 30 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm and fill it with soil mixed with some organic manure. Thereafter you should plant the seedling and press the soil around the plant so that it is able to stand on.

Will I require permission from forest department for harvesting the tree that I have grown?

No, any sort of permission is not required.
