PM Internship Scheme was announced in the Budget2024-25with the aim of providing internship opportunities to youth, in Top Companies. Through this Scheme, youth will gain exposure to real-life business environment, across varied professions and employment opportunities. As an initiation of this Scheme which involves multiple stakeholders and innovative concepts of skilling, a Pilot Project of the Scheme targeted at providing 91.25 lakh internship opportunities was launched in the Financial Year (FY) 2024-25. The top companies for this Pilot Project were identified based on the average CSR expenditure of the last three years.

The Pilot Project of PM lnternship Scheme was implemented across two rounds during FY 2024-25 and 2025-26. The Pitot Project has now been extended till December 2026, with a target of providing 1 .10 lakh internship opportunities. Participation of the companies in this Pilot Project of the Scheme is voluntary.

lnternship, for the purpose of this Pitot Project of PM Internship Scheme is envisaged as an arrangement between the intern and the company in which the company provides an opportunity to the intern to get training, gain experience and skil.ls in the real.-life environment of the business or organization that helps in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements, in turn, assisting enhancement of her/his employability. lnterns, for the purpose of this Pilot Project, are not to be treated as employees as clarified by the Ministry of Labor and Employment vide its OM dated 27 .09.2024.

What is PM Internship Scheme?

The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) provides young eligible candidates with opportunities to gain hands‑on industry experience through internships offered by participating organizations. Under the Rolling Model, participating companies post internship opportunities regularly on the PMIS portal with defined start and end date. Candidates can explore available opportunities, apply as per portal rules and eligibility criteria, track their applications, and complete joining steps if selected.

Features of PM Internship Scheme

  • Duration of the Internship shall, be either 6 or 9 months depending on nature of internship, sector and company requirement. At least half of the internship period must be spent in the actual working experience/ job environment, and not in the classroom.
  • Internship opportunities are published regularly by the participating companies with defined start and end dates.
  • Candidates can browse available internships and apply to opportunities that are currently open.
  • A candidate can apply a maximum of three active internship applications at one time.
  • If one of your applications is not shortlisted or rejected, you may apply to more internships, but you can only have up to 3 active applications at a time.
  • A candidate can receive a maximum of two active internship offer letters at one time. However, he/she can only accept one offer.
  • If an internship offer is received under PM Internship Scheme, it must be accepted within 14 days, failing which it will lapse. Once you accept an offer, you cannot apply to more internships (other
  • applications/offers will be blocked).
  • If you receive 2 offers and have accepted one, you may withdraw the accepted offer and accept the other offer only within 15 days from your offer acceptance date.
  • All activities on the portal are governed by system‑driven rules to ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all candidates.
  • You must join on or before the reporting date mentioned in the offer letter.
  • If you do not join by the reporting date via PM Internship Scheme, you get a 14-day grace period to join.
  • If you still do not join within the grace period, the system will mark you as Did Not Report (DNR) automatically on the 15th day.
  • If you are terminated by the company during the internship, you are not allowed to participate again in PM Internship Scheme.
  • If you drop out once, you get only one more chance to join another PMIS internship. If you drop out a second time, you become permanently ineligible to participate in
    PMIS.
PM Internship Scheme

Eligibility and Ineligibility Criteria for PM Internship Scheme

  • Youth aged between 18 and 25 (as on the date of submission of application), belonging to lndian nationality, who are not employed full-time.
  • Candidates who have passed High School, Higher Secondary School, possess a certificate from an lTl, hold a diploma from a Polytechnic lnstitute, or are undergraduates with degrees such as BA, B.Sc., B.Com, BCA, BBA, B.Pharma, B.E./B.Tech etc. or postgraduates with degrees such MA, M.Sc., M.Com, MCA, M.Tech etc. are eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must not be engaged in full-time education. However, candidates enrolled in online or distance learning programs or candidates enrolled in the final year of full-time graduation or post-graduation are eligible to apply. Guidelines regarding the inclusion of full-time finaI year graduation and post-graduation students will be issued separately.

lneligibility criteria: The following persons are ineligible to participate in PM Internship Scheme:
(i) Graduates/PostgraduatesfromllTs,llMs,NationaILawUniversities,lISER,NlDs,lllTs and llSc.
(ii) Those having qualifications such as CA, CMA, CS, MBBS, BDS, MD, MS, MBA or equivalent, MPhiL and PhD.
(iii)Those undergoing any skill, apprenticeship, internship or training program under CentraI Government or State Government schemes.
(iv) Those who have completed apprenticeship, training under National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) or National. Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) at any point.
(v) lf the income of any of the family members of the candidate exceeds Rsl2 lakh in the preceding FY as on the date of submission of application.

Use of PM Internship Scheme Portal and Registration Process

To access the PM Internship Scheme Portal:

  • Open a web browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, etc.). Enter the PM Internship Scheme (PMIS) Portal URL in the address bar as Prime Minister Internship Scheme .The PMIS Home Page will be displayed.
  • On the Home Page, the candidate can view Top navigation menu with the following options:

    g. Support
    h. Language selection option
    i. Accessibility options (Screen Reader, Text Size controls) Important scheme-related announcements and notification, Login / Register button displayed at the top‑right corner.
  • The “Login / Register” button is the common entry point for both: New candidates who want to register and Existing candidates who want to log in.
  • When you are exploring internships on PMIS, you can quickly learn more about a company by opening its Company Page. Go to the section where company logos are shown (“Paid internships in top companies”) or wherever logos appear on internship listings. Click on the company’s logo. You will be redirected to the Company Landing Page.
  • Candidates who are visiting the PM Internship Scheme Portal for the first time must complete registration to create their account. Steps to Register:
  • Click on the “Login / Register” button available on the Home Page.
  • Select the New User/Register Now as indicated above in red box.
  • Enter the Mobile Number and provide the consent.
  • Click on Submit Button. Enter the OTP received on your registered mobile number and submit it.
  • Create a new password, confirm it, and submit: The password must be at least 8 Characters long and must include 1 Uppercase letter, 1 lowercase letter, 1 Digit and 1 Special Character. Example: Password@12, passWord@1, passworD@1 etc. On successful authentication, the candidate is redirected to the Explore Internships.

Log in for existing candidates in PM Internship Scheme Portal:

  • Click on the “Login / Register” button available on the Home Page.
  • On the Login page, locate the field “Enter Username / Mobile / CIN”.
  • Enter the registered Mobile Number.
  • Enter the password in the “Enter Password” field.
  • The password can be viewed or hidden using the visibility icon, if required.
  • Click on the “Login” button.
  • Enter the captcha as displayed on the screen and click on “Login” Button
  • Enter the OTP shared on the registered phone and click on “Login” Button
  • If the candidate didn’t receive the OTP, click on Resend OTP. Upon successful authentication, the candidate will be redirected to the Candidate Dashboard. If you enter wrong password in 3 consecutive attempts your account will be blocked for 15 minutes. Please reset your password if your account is blocked.

Supports and Benefits of PM Internship Scheme

This is a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme. Details of the support, financial benefits and funding pattern under the Pilot Project of the PM Internship Scheme are given below:
a. Monthly assistance to the interns:

Monthly assistance of Rs. 9,000 will be paid to the interns for the entire duration of the internship. Out of this, every month the company will release <900, i.e. 1Oo/o of the total monthly assistance to each intern from the Company’s CSR funds or own funds. Once the Company/Organization makes the payment, the
Government will pay its share of t8,100 to the intern’s Aadhaar seeded bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer. The company’s share of t900 per month maybe proportionate to the intern’s attendance and adherence to related company policies.

The Government share will be pro-rated as per the amount paid by the Company/ Organization. The above amount of monthly assistance is also applicable for the active interns of the existing Pitot Project from March 2O26 for their remaining duration of the internship. ln case, any Company/Organization wishes to provide monthly assistance over and above 900, it may do so from its own funds. Partner Companies shall pay their share of monthly assistance and upload the payment details on the portaI in a timely manner before the 5th of every month in accordance with O.M. No. CSR-1313512024 (PMIS) dated 01lO9l2O25.
