The Assam HSLC Examination is a much anticipated standard for students of Class X to qualify their High School level. It is held annually as a qualifying benchmark for 10th standard students to judge them on the basis of their performance in this examination. Every year this examination is held usually in the month of February-March. It is conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA). The syllabus of the examination, question paper, marking system, results etc are provided by the State Board (SEBA).

New HSLC Examination pattern for 2024: Major changes
Assam Board of Secondary Education has announced some of the major changes in the upcoming HSLC Examination 2024. Here are the details:
- The Examination will be conducted through OMR Sheets for the first time.
- The OMR sheet examination will be held for the following core subjects- English (C1), General Mathematics (C2), General Science (C3),Social Science (C4)
- OMR sheet questions will be of Objective Type carrying 1 mark each.
- There will be no negative marking for wrong answers.
- The students will have to mark only one option amongst A, B, C, D or 1, 2, 3, 4 for each question.
- The students will be given a personalised OMR Sheet which should filled up with all necessary details like Roll Number, Registration Number, Subject Name, Subject Code etc.
- If in case any student makes any mistake while filling up the credentials in his/her OMR Sheet, no extra sheet shall be provided to the student.
- The objective type questions will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs).
- Such MCQs will contain 50% of the total marks in the examination. This means, if for example, the total marks in General Mathematics is 100, there will be MCQs of 50 marks to be answered in OMR Sheet.
- For the remaining 50%, a separate answer script containing 16 pages will be provided to the students.
- The remaining 50% questions will be of subjective type based on previous pattern of examination.
New eligibility criteria for students:
To appear in HSLC Examination 2024, the SEBA has laid down the following new guidelines:
- The students who appeared in the Unit Test-I (except the unsuccessful students of HSLC 2023), and are regularly attending classes, appeared or will appear in subsequent examinations such as Half Yearly, Unit Test-II or Pre-Boards.
- The unsuccessful students of HSLC 2023, who are re-admitted in Class X but could not appear in Unit Test-I, will have to regularly attend classes and also appear in Half-Yearly examination, Unit Test-II and Pre-Boards.
