The famed shrine of Maa Kamakhya, also known as Kameswari, the Goddess of Desire, is situated in the western region of Guwahati, the capital of the state of Asom in northeastern India, at the base of Nilachala Hill. The oldest and most revered of the 51 Shakti Peethas on the planet is Maa Kamakhya Devalaya. It is the focal point of India’s powerful and extensively practiced Tantrik Shaktism cult. The Assam government and the tourism department are also collaborating to facilitate Maa Kamakhya Devalaya Darshan for devotees.
In this context, a three type darshan facility has been introduced in the temple to ensure a smooth darshan experience for the devotees.

Darshan System at Maa Kamakhya Devalaya:
There are mainly three procedures for Maa Kamakhya Devalaya Darshan:
- General procedure
- Special Darshan
- Special Darshan for Defence Personnel
The general procedure for darshan includes a free access or ticket free entry to the garbha-griha (the inner sanctum) of the temple. A devotee following this procedure would typically complete the darshan in 4-5 hours, depending upon the rush and celebrated events in the temple.
The Special Darshan or paid darshan includes a entry fee to access the garbha-griha of the temple. This is a hassle free and comparatively lesser time consuming option than the general procedure.
The third option for darshan is available only for individuals working or are involved in the defence sector of the country. In this case no entry fee is required for darshan but the devotee will have to produce the defence identity card or any such relevant document at the time of entry to the temple. These passes are also available online in the temple website.

On clicking the ‘Online Booking- Special Darshan’ tab, you will be redirected to another page, then click ‘Proceed’. The instructions and terms of conditions page will be displayed. It is required to go through the instructions carefully under which it is also written that the entry fee for special darshan pass is INR 501/-.
Click on ‘I Accept’ and then you will require to create a profile using your mobile number, email and address. Once the profile is created you can log in to book your passes. However, darshan pass can be booked as per the availability in the dates mentioned in the booking system. Therefore, it is suggested to check availability of pass online and accordingly plan your visit to the temple.
To book special darshan pass for defence personnel online please visit Kamakhya Temple website and click on the tab as shown below:

On clicking the ‘Online Booking- for Defence Personnel’ tab, you will be redirected to another page, then click ‘Proceed’. The instructions and terms of conditions page will be displayed. It is required to go through the instructions carefully. As special darshan for defence personnel is free, it is mandatory to produce the defence identity card in original. However, no dependents of defence personnel can avail this facility. In this case there is no need to create a profile. The devotees can simply enter their mobile number and fill in the required details to generate the pass.

General Darshan of Maa Kamakhya:
Devotees who opt for darshan without special entry pass need to queue up early in the morning, even before the doors of the temple opens. Once the daily rituals are performed, the doors are opened for the devotees for darshan and people opting for general darshan are queued in a different pathway, which is a separate one from the special darshan line. However, special darshan booking remains closed on Ambubachi days and also during annual Durga Puja festival.
