About Mahakaleshwar Temple

The Temple is situated in Ujjain, one of Hinduism’s 7 holy towns (Sapta Puri). The temple is special because, out of the twelve Jyotirlingas in India, it is the only one facing  towards south. In Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva took on the form of Mahakal here to shield followers from malevolent forces.
Numerous ancient manuscripts and scriptures make reference to the temple’s thousands-year-old past. It has undergone numerous reconstructions and renovations over the years. It is currently one of India’s most significant places for religious travel. There are several shrines in the temple complex that are devoted to different gods. Nonetheless, the underground sanctum’s Jyotirlinga continues to be the primary attraction.
